National Traffic Awareness Month takes place every August to promote the importance of road safety with the goal of reducing traffic accidents. Road fatalities have been a persistent concern in the province, with Ontario recording 3.6 fatalities per 100,000 population in 2020.
Speeding, impaired driving, and distracted driving are still significant contributors to these tragedies, with impaired driving alone causing 49 fatalities in 2023.
By focusing on traffic safety this month, we’re not just acknowledging the importance of road safety but actively working towards a culture where every driver, cyclist, and pedestrian’s safety is prioritized.
